Welcome back Chronicler!

This week the courts reminded us that finding Big Tech guilty and actually breaking it up are two very different things. Google got hit with an illegal monopoly ruling on its ad tech business and walked away with behavioral fixes instead of a forced breakup, the same playbook we saw in the search case last year. Meanwhile the money is voting with its feet: the week's biggest checks went to compute, robotics, and satellites, not new model labs.

Plus: 15 VC Jobs an AI due diligence tool built for partners tired of unverified AI claims in investment memos.

As always, thank you for subscribing and engaging week-in week out. Still a work in progress, but I appreciate all of you.

With Love,

THIS WEEK IN VC & TECH
What matters this week

LEAD STORY

A federal judge found Google's ad tech business is an illegal monopoly but, echoing last year's search ruling, declined to order a breakup and chose behavioral remedies instead.

For VCs who spent two years betting a court-forced divestiture of AdX or DoubleClick would open clean-sheet lanes for independent ad tech and search challengers, that thesis just took its second and more decisive hit.

The real opportunity now is narrower: startups building compliance, interoperability, and auction-integration tools that plug into whatever behavioral changes Google is forced to make, not standalone rivals hoping to inherit market share.

Founders pitching a post-breakup ad tech platform should expect a much harder fundraising conversation from here.

US courts keep finding Big Tech guilty and keep declining to actually break it up.

QUICK HITS

China's Compute Buildout  China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology laid out a plan to lift national AI computing capacity to 9,800 exaflops by 2030, backed by roughly $532 billion in cumulative infrastructure spending. Beijing is racing to out-build export controls with state-subsidized capacity, handing China-based AI startups a durable, at-cost compute advantage over Western peers still paying market rates.

Google's EU Search Overhaul  Google reshaped search results across Europe to comply with a 460 million euro Digital Markets Act fine, giving vertical search and comparison sites like Booking.com and Expedia default prominence over its own listings. It's the forced-interoperability windfall for European challengers that US courts just declined to hand American ones.

Uber's Restructuring  Uber is cutting 3,300 jobs and shrinking its manager ranks by 20% as it consolidates engineering, delivery, and robotaxi teams and ends most remote work. Even a scaled, profitable platform is flattening its org chart to fund AI and autonomy bets.

Anthropic's Lambda Compute Deal  Anthropic locked in a six-year, $35 billion compute agreement with Nvidia-backed neocloud Lambda for a Texas data center, its third mega-compute contract in months. Nvidia effectively underwriting demand for its own chips through a web of neocloud partners is fueling circular-financing concerns worth factoring into AI infrastructure valuations.

MONEY IN MOTION
The deals that shaped the week

Crusoe, a company that started out mining cryptocurrency with stranded natural gas, tripled its valuation to $30 billion in under a year by pivoting hard into AI data centers, landing the same week fellow infrastructure player Fluidstack raised $1.5 billion at an $18 billion valuation. When two of the week's five biggest deals are unglamorous pipes and power businesses rather than model labs, investors are telling you where they think the scarcity actually is.

Crusoe | AI infrastructure / data centers | Series F, $3 billion | Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners | Sept 3, 2026 Link

Fluidstack | AI infrastructure / GPU cloud | Private equity round, $1.5 billion | Jane Street Capital | Sept 3, 2026 Link

Félix | Fintech, remittances | Series C, $200 million | Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst | Sept 1, 2026 Link

Lyte AI | Robotics, physical AI / perception hardware | Series C, $165 million | Maverick Silicon | Sept 2, 2026 Link

Pixxel | Space tech, Earth observation | Series C, $100 million | Temasek, Seraphim Space Investment Trust | Sept 7, 2026 Link

❝

The week's biggest checks went to physical infrastructure, not chatbots: two multibillion dollar AI data center rounds, a robotics sensing startup, and a spacetech satellite company all cleared nine figures, while the one consumer fintech deal still leaned on AI positioning to justify its size. Investors are increasingly funding the picks and shovels of the AI buildout, compute, perception hardware, and orbital sensing, rather than betting purely on new foundation models.

No follow-up questions required

Every sales leader knows the feeling. You walk into a pipeline review with a number you believe in, and twenty minutes later, you're defending every line item to a CEO who just wants to know what's actually going to close.

HubSpot Sales Hub ends that conversation. Every deal, every rep's activity, and every buyer signal are all in one place and updated automatically. So your forecast is built on what's actually happening. And when you present that number, you can stand behind it.

THIS WEEK'S STANDOUT

Zaigo, an AI implementation lab, launched an engineering-led due diligence practice built for PE and VC deal teams evaluating AI claims in investment theses. Its engineers pressure test what a target's data and systems can actually support, verify management's AI claims against production reality, and rank automation upside with payback estimates, all delivered as a report the fund owns. It matters right now because nearly every investment memo has an AI slide that nobody with engineering expertise has checked.

1752vc Pitch Deck Analyzer - Trained on 25,000-plus real pitch decks, it gives investor-style, slide-by-slide feedback in under 60 seconds and took the number one spot on Product Hunt.

Startup Due Dil - Built by a VC partner, this multi-agent system turns a pitch deck upload into a structured red, yellow, and green flag due diligence report, including cap table checks, in about 10 minutes.

Paraflow - An intelligent operating system for VC that converts pitch decks into IC memos, analyzes cap tables for dilution and exit scenarios, and scores deals across the pipeline.

Harmonic - An AI-powered startup database used by Menlo Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, and Accel to discover founders, map markets, and track early signals for deal sourcing.
